Any live being, whether it is a human, a dolphin or an elephant, has its own electric skeleton – the set of points on a body surface where electric resistance is less, than in other places. These points are named biologically active. Skin of a man has more than seven hundred active points. The most various illnesses are treated by influencing these points. The therapeutic value of skin points was revealed long time ago; when people did not have even an idea of electricity. In the ancient time only in the east, and now and on all continents there are experts in acupuncture, as nowadays this method of east medicine is named.
Acupuncturists use gold, silver and steel needles. It was found out that there is an electric charge on a needle at acupuncture in an active point of a skin. Gold needles were charged to the highest extent, and used entered when life-supporting ability of body was required to rise. Silver needles were used in opposite case. The steel needle is almost indifferent.
Comparison of two factors – low electric resistance of a skin in biologically active point and occurrence in it of electric charges at needle insertion – has suggested an idea to treat not only by a needle, but also a weak electric current.
Electropuncture can replace gold and silver needles. The weak positive charge on an electrode is similar to an insertion of a silver needle, and negative – the gold. For example, at intestines inflammation (colitis) it is reasonable to use a negative charge – it is necessary to stimulate intestines work.
It was found out as that electropuncture in overwhelming majority of cases reduces or in general kills a pain. This discovery leads to a direct way to develop a new system of anesthesia. But electropuncture possibilities are much wider: it has put on feet patients with I and II stage of the hypertensive disease, patients with bronchial asthma, an allergic cold, a radiculitis and so on.
In comparison with traditional acupuncture electropuncture has obvious advantages: simplicity of use, absence of the needle injuring mentality of the patient, and long training to an arrangement of points on a body isn`t required.
The main problem was that the medical effect was found by error&trial method. Physicists, instead of physicians have come to the idea on exciting action of a negative electric charge. Besides, weak direct current is possibly not panacea – it is necessary to vary frequencies, voltage, current…
In 1976, this problem has interested the first-year student the Taganrog Institute of Radio Engineering Karasev A. A. The then existing devices were operating according to a fixed program, i.e. invariable impact with constant voltage/current.
